The Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook 2 by Tosca Reno

When I was approached to review this cookbook, I was hopeful. Let me say this: I HATE the word DIET! I have an obsession with food, calories and feeling guilty when I splurge, so the word DIET makes me feel like someone is going to pry the wine glass out of my hand and feed be bean sprouts and carrots.  But the CLEAN part made me hopeful. The book arrives, right on the day I need to plan the next 2 weeks of meals. And yes, I plan my meals out at least 2 weeks in advance. Its part of the...

Tips To Avoid Overeating

My Tips To Avoid Overeating By Tina Haupert, Author of Carrots ‘N’ Cake: Healthy Living One Carrot and Cupcake At A Time Overeating is the worst feeling. I feel like I have been defeated — like my cravings have taken over and I am powerless to resist them. I feel weak and disappointed in myself. I try not to let these feelings take over because I know nothing good can come from them. But here I am, blogging about healthy living and trying to set a good example for...

IDEAS IN FOOD: Great Recipe and Why They Work ~ A Review

Posted by on Dec 16, 2010 in Other Stuff | 1 comment

IDEAS IN FOOD:  Great Recipes and Why They Work (Clarkson Potter, December 28, 2010) I was given the opportunity to read and review this book from the publisher, which I am very grateful for.  When I cook, I follow recipes to a T.  But my problem is, and my parents can vouch for this, I want to know “why”.  I get the same from my kids, “but why, mommy”.  I used to get so mad at my father growing up….”because I said so” is not a valid reason.  I...

Falling off the Bone, Jean Anderson (Wiley Hardcover; $29.95; October 25, 2010) Let me start off by saying how much I love meat.  My husband and I got married VERY quickly (I’m talking under a month quickly) and he always says that on our elopement evening, he breathed a huge sigh of relief when I ordered my steak…..rare.  Its nice to know that my steak preferences are the ties that bind us.  Kidding. Our love for meat has been one that is adoration from afar for a...

Butterbell Crock ~ Not good

Posted by on Oct 30, 2010 in Other Stuff | 2 comments

I was given the opportunity to review a butter crock made by Butterbell. The product looked great.  It was sturdy, and seemed to have potential.  The downfall.  It keeps butter spreadable for up to a month.  Does anyone out there actually use butter on a regular basis anymore?  Anyone who’s cholesterol isn’t through the roof?  With all the media weight trends, bullying, and social taboos going on right now, I dare to bring up this point without being...

Review ~ Better Homes & Gardens New CookBook 15th Edition

Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook, 15th Edition (Wiley Binder; $29.95) I was so excited to review the Better Homes and Gardens 15th Edition New Cookbook.  There is so much nostalgia surrounding this book.  I grew up with the “plaid”.  The one my mom had, must be the 10th edition, since I remember it as early as 1985.  I distinctly remember staying home from school “sick”, but as soon as everyone was out the door, out came the cookbook.  There...

Giveaway ~ Perfect Portions Food Scale ~ Review

Posted by on Sep 27, 2010 in Other Stuff | 22 comments

Perfect portions scale is exactly that.  I was given the great opportunity to try this scale out this weekend and I absolutely love it.  My reasons for wanting a scale have to do with more precise baking measurements.  Not for calorie counting, since I already know what calories are in my food.  Or so I though. My breakfast, lately,  has been shredded wheat and 1% milk.  The cereal has 190 calories in it and 50 in the milk.  Or does it. My normal...
