Apparently my husband loves bread pudding. Its odd how almost 5 years of marriage, and I am still learning some of these things. Putting it more into prospective, I never gave him an option of bread pudding. There was no way I would be able to make it without burning down the house. But those days are over, and here I am with some delicious Challah pudding. What a great way to end Hanukkah. Until next year my dear Jewish readers.
Challah Pudding
1/2 stick butter
2 cups milk
3 eggs, whisked
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
1/4 tsp salt
1 loaf day old Challah bread, sliced
1 cup dried cherries
1 cup diced pears, skin on
1/2 cup demerara sugar (in the raw)
1/2 cup almond slivers
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter each slice of bread. Cut bread into small pieces.
In a medium bowl, mix milk, eggs, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt. Add the bread to the bowl and be sure to coat the bread with mixture.
Butter a 9″ pie pan. Layer, bread, pears, cherries, almonds, and sugar. Be sure to end with a sugar layer. Bake for 45 minutes. Serve with ice cream and enjoy!
See you next Hanukkah…..or sooner!
